Barbara Bates & Patches
I was rescued from the Reservation when I was only about 10 weeks old. I went to a family’s house that had a 1-year-old dog. We got along great, and I was adopted by my new family with a little girl and young dog to play with me. I think I have some Border Collie and Black Labrador because I’m very smart (which comes from the Border Collie I’m sure.) Since I have white areas with black ticks (those are little spots, not bugs) on my chest, tummy and paws, I was named Patches. My mom started taking me to The Peaks (retirement community) in 2006. When the Paws to Read program came along, I registered. I love to lie on the floor and listen to stories! Will you read to me?
Tammy Begler & Kenda
Kenda is 2 years old. She was one of 12 brothers and sisters. She loves to play, run, and spend time with her adopted sister, Chinle. Kenda is quite skilled at making friends and has been seen in the neighborhood playing with skunks and walking with a javelina. A champion show dog, she currently competes in sheep herding and is training for competition in obedience and agility. Her favorite therapy dog activity, however, is being around kids. She loves to have kids read to her and sit with her. Her full name is CH Woodsong's Cruz'n Kenda Blur, CGC. She is named after a mountain bike tire that came on my Santa Cruz Blur bike.
Jamie McNeil and Sherman
My name is Sherman, and I am a 140 pound Rottweiler. I was named after a combination of General Sherman from the Civil War and the Sherman Tank because I am so big and strong, but my docile temperament is more like a teddy bear. I love people and I love laying my head on your lap to be pet. I take my job as a Paws to Read dog very seriously. When my Mom says that we are "going to work," I get very excited and I wag my little nubbin' tail real fast back and forth. I hope to teach children that Rottweiler dogs can be friendly with good manners, that dogs should be treated with respect, and that reading is fun! I hope to learn something from the children too.
